Interim Study To Examine Tulsa Race Massacre Compensation, Scholarships

Representative Regina Goodwin, D-Tulsa, will examine the updated status and progress on the 2001 Tulsa Race “Riot” (Massacre) Commission Report recommendations in an upcoming interim study before the House General Government Committee.

Goodwin’s Interim Study To Examine Tulsa Race Massacre Survivor and Descendant Victims’ Compensation, Scholarships, Economic Development and a Memorial Set for October 5

 

OKLAHOMA CITY – Representative Regina Goodwin, D-Tulsa, will examine the updated status and progress on the 2001 Tulsa Race “Riot” (Massacre) Commission Report recommendations in an upcoming interim study before the House General Government Committee.

IS23-063 is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5th, in Room 450 at the State Capitol, 2300 N Lincoln Blvd.

Historical figures, among the last three known 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre survivors, Mrs. Viola Ford Fletcher, 109, Mrs. Lessie Benningfield Randle, 108, Mr. Hughes Van Ellis, 102, and family members are confirmed to attend the interim study. Panelists from across the nation will address topics such as Survivor and Descendant Victims’ Compensation, Scholarships, Economic Development, and a Memorial, should excavated mass grave remains be discovered.

Rep. Goodwin stated, “While this study is long overdue, we are blessed to have eyewitnesses, our great survivors, more than 100 years later, among us. We will stare American history in the face to truthfully discuss  recommendations, challenges, reparations, and policy. Right solutions lead to long-sought restorative justice.”

The study is open to the public and will be live streamed at www.okhouse.gov.
