OVERDOSE AWARENESS WEEK
Community Behavioral Health Clinics Lead the Fight Against Addiction and Overdose in Oklahoma
CCBHCs LEAD FIGHT AGAINST OVERDOSE in OKLAHOMA
With nearly 20 years of experience in Oklahoma government affairs, Sasha brings deep expertise in policy development, communications, and stakeholder engagement to her new role.
As Oklahoma observes Overdose Awareness Week leading up to International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, the Alliance of Mental Health Providers of Oklahoma is calling attention to the lifesaving work of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs).
From urban centers to rural counties, CCBHCs are on the front lines of overdose prevention, addiction treatment, and recovery support. These clinics deliver 24/7 crisis care, expand access to medication-assisted treatment, distribute naloxone, and connect individuals and families to long-term recovery.
“Oklahoma has become a national model for how CCBHCs can transform behavioral health care,” said Joy Sloan, Executive Director, Green Country Behavioral Health Services and President of the Alliance. “In a state where overdose deaths have risen 129% since 2019, our clinics are proving that coordinated, community-based treatment saves lives.”

Building a Healthier Oklahoma
Together, these CCBHCs form a robust network, helping to ensure that Oklahomans can access immediate help and ongoing care.
CCBHCs are funded in part through federal initiatives and state partnerships, enabling them to offer comprehensive, no-barrier care. Their integrated model covers the full continuum of needs: mental health, substance use, physical health coordination, crisis response, peer support, and prevention.
“As legislators and stakeholders consider the future of mental health policy in Oklahoma, it’s critical to recognize the proven impact of CCBHCs,” said Sloan whose CCBHC is headquartered in Muskgoee. “They are not just clinics. They are community anchors of hope and resilience.”
